I am an Associate Professor of English at Grand Valley State University in western Michigan where I teach courses in applied linguistics to help future teachers better serve English language learners. I'm interested in second language education and research on effective approaches to second language instruction. I've taught ESL in the U.S., EFL in Asia and South America and trained pre-service and in-service teachers in Chile, Thailand, and Japan. I'm currently serving as co-editor of the MITESOL Journal and frequently give talks and lead workshops on topics related to TESOL.
